CATCH JUSTIN JAMES AND IAIN HAMILTON LIVE THIS SATURDAY – SKYBAR (THE BOOM BOOM ROOM
Q) Justin James is floating right near the top of the EDM scene with your tracks being played by dj superstars Richie Hawtin and Dubfire, did you see this coming when you were a first starting out to dj at SkyBar in the Boom Boom Room?
A) Man. I had no idea what was coming, and still don’t for that matter. All I know is that being around a getting to see so many great acts in such an intimate venue really assisted me is developing my taste in music. I quickly got a grasp on the sounds that I wanted to play out and eventually eclectically develop a sound that I wanted to put down as my own in the realm of production. Much of this has lead me to where I am today.
Q) You’ve been around since the beginnig of the edm surge especially in Windsor – what’s changed since then and now?
A) This music for better or worse has developed into a worldwide phenomenon especially in North America. I think that it can only be a great thing for everyone involved. Those interested in the underground and in the mainstream have access to the music they love in so many different channels and avenues. And for me, the hope is that those interested the mainstream side of things will dig a little deeper and find music with a little more substance and a little more integrity a develop a deep, stronger taste in this music.
Q) What can we expect next from Justin James – is there a hard drive somewhere full of unreleased music? Or is it something that you continue to produce track by track?
A) I certainly do have a hard drive full of unreleased music right now. I’m being quite patient at the moment. I have recently signed a contract with Dubfire’s Sci+Tec imprint and have been working with him to finalize an EP. Also I have remixes coming out on some pretty hot labels in the near future. Hopefully we’ll hear some more great news about other projects soon, but that’s I can report at this moment.
Q) You are returning to Sky Bar/ Boom Boom Room Saturday June 23rd – any surprises lined up?
A) I’m really looking forward to playing on the 23rd. I’ve got a tonne of new originals I’d like to try out as well as some great music by some of my favourite producers. Also, I love having the opportunity to play in that venue. Some of the most memorable parties I’ve played at or attended have been there. I am hoping that this Saturday will be one of those nights. Not to mention I’m playing with my good friend Iain Hamilton who not only is a blast to play with (when he doesn’t sneak out early) but he is also truly a DJ’s DJ.
